Getting the most out of an educational experience is a top priority for students, teachers and parents. South Plains College recognizes the importance of allowing highly motivated students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school.
The Dual Credit Program at South Plains College allows eligible students to enroll in college-level courses and earn college credit as a sophomore, junior or senior in high school. In most cases, these college credit courses can be applied toward the student's high school credit requirements for graduation.
DUAL CREDIT refers to the granting of high school graduation credit for college courses taken through South Plains College. The policies of the local independent school district govern the granting of such credit for the high school.
South Plains College has identified a number of courses which may be taken for dual credit. Dual Credit students take core courses commonly required for any bachelor's degree program at most universities. Academic credit received at South Plains College is fully transferable to Texas public universities. Courses available at the high schools may be found by contacting counselors from the high schools listed on the Dual Credit High School Partners page.
Enrollment in Dual Credit Courses
Students wishing to participate should talk with their parents and high school counselor before enrolling. Students must submit the following:
- Admissions Application
- Dual Credit and Concurrent Enrollment Approval form
- High school transcript
- Test Scores (see qualifying scores below)
- Proof of Meningitis Vaccination (only if taking a course is at one of the SPC campuses)
- Official college transcript(s) for colleges attended other than SPC
All students in the Dual Credit program who will take academic courses must satisfy Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements and/or prerequisites requirements for all college level courses. Students taking career/technical courses are exempt from any TSI pre-requisites.
Additionally, Dual Credit students are not required to show college readiness in all three areas (reading, writing, and math), but only for the course(s) they wish to take. For example, students taking English-1301 will only need to show college readiness in reading and writing, since no math score is required for the class.

Students who are not exempted through STAAR, SAT or ACT scores may qualify to enroll in dual credit courses by achieving the minimum cut scores on the TSI Assessment.
Students cannot claim an ACT or SAT exemption on Math or English if they do not meet the Composite or Combined Score first.

Withdrawal from Dual Credit Courses
Dual credit students wishing to drop a dual credit course must contact their high school counselor for a drop form. Students must submit a completed drop form signed by their high school counselor on or before the final drop date of the semester to the SPC Admissions Office in order for the drop to become effective.
Per state federal regulations, there is no financial aid available to students that
have not graduated from high school.
Additionally, Dual Credit students should be aware that failure to successfully complete
the courses in which they enroll may make them ineligible to receive financial aid
at SPC. When applying for federal aid, students are expected to maintain a 2.0 cumulative
grade point average and at least an 80% course completion rate. Any course in which
an "F," "I," or "X" was received does not count as a completed course. Students who
do not meet these criteria are placed on financial aid suspension, and are not eligible
to receive Federal Title IV aid until the student's suspension status has been changed.
Dual credit students may check their grades at the end of the semester through TexanConnect. Grade reports are not mailed.
